Fall Onesie Remix
I know it has been a while. I miss the blogging world. Last time I wrote I had all these big plans to create but the very next day I came down with the flu and it went on for a week. Then when I got over that Doug and I flew to Dallas to visit some dear friends. We had a great time but when I got home I had to regroup and get our house and life back in order so I have had little time to do anything fun or crafty. After church today I decided to take some time and sit at the sewing machine for a little bit. I took one of Lilly's onesies and a fall dress that I made for her last year (that didn't come out as planned) and put them together...and voila! (if you click on the photo below to enlarge it, you can see the dress a lot better).Hopefully I won't be gone on such a long break again any time soon. I am putting out my halloween stuff next weekend and I can't wait to share it with you. I love puttin' some cute spook around our nest. Love and blessings to you all.

I Need To Create...And I mean Now!
With school/work, household chores, church functions, keeping up with a busy toddler, etc. I have had zero time to create lately. I hope today I can work on something (Lilly is visiting her Maw Maw today so I have some alone time). I have so many ideas and projects in my mind and if I don't get them out soon I might explode!
I picked up the latest issue of Somerset Studio last weekend and got completely inspired to start doing some collage and mixed media stuff. I have always loved both of these art forms/techniques. The magazine is looking for submissions for their March/April issue and it is my goal to submit something. The art is due by October 15 and the theme is "Alice in Wonderland", which is one of my favorite stories ever. I studied it extensively in college because I specialized (sort of like a minor) in children's literature. I am very excited about this project so stay tuned to see what I come up with.
Yesterday I picked up this book for some more inspiration for my mixed media undertaking...
This book is AMAZING! I am loving it. The author, Lisa Kettell is my new art/craft idol. Check out her blog to see her whimisical work. I am drooling over it all.
Also going to be doing an arrangement simlar to this in my family room soon... I am going thrifting today to look for some wooden embroidery hoops and I have tons of vintage fabric and scraps that I have already picked out to use. Can't wait to show you how it turns out.
So I am off to get the crap work done (ie clean bathroom, vacuum, mop, yuk!) so I can spend the rest of the day making something pretty. Have a great weekend!

The Moment We've Been Waiting For...
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere comes the gators! Today our National Champion fightin' Gators kick off the season. Football season is a big deal around here. We pretty much bleed orange and blue. You may wonder why I love football so much. Well first of all my Dad was a high school football coach for 30 years. He actually had to miss a championship game the night I was born. I have been attending football games since I was a tot and have had a pair of pom poms since I could walk. My Granny Dot made me my first cheerleading uniform when I was 2. As far as loving the Gators, well I was born in Gainesville, home of the Gators, my entire family on both sides are from Gator Country (North Central Florida, Gainesville and surrounding area), I attended my first Gator game when I was about 4 and was hooked, my grandfather went to UF on the G.I. Bill, and my husband and I both graduated from UF. Oh and recently I have added one more reason I love the gators to my list.....
While my husband and I were in college, we went to many Gator games. I can't tell you how exciting they are. The stadium where they play is called "The Swamp". It is like 110 degrees inside "the swamp" on a game day in August. It is a sea of orange and blue. Fans are going crazy. When you leave you can't hear for the next 24hrs. It is so intense and there is nothing like it. Right before the players run out on the field they play a vido on the jumbo tron of real alligators on the hunt in a swamp and a deep loud voice echoes over the stadium "In the swamp, only gators get out alive". The crowd goes wild and you hear "heeeeeeeeeeeeere comes the gators" and the team runs out onto the field. div>I can't wait for a new season to start tonight. Wish I was going to the game. When you are a student and you are lucky enough to get season tickets, like we did, you get them for the price of a movie ticket. When you are not a student and your team are the national champions, tickets are in the hundreds. So I'll be watching from my comfy couch, in the air conditioning, wearing my orange and blue. Here's to another gator victory!

fabric flower belt
Whew! I'm back. Sorry I have been away so long. Going back to work and getting a toddler ready for preschool has been keeping me busy. I thought I would share something with you that I whipped up last weekend between buying a backpack, finding school shoes, writing lesson plans and cleaning house :)
I had this white shirt from Anthropologie hanging in my closet but I haven't worn it in a while. I actually wore it when I was pregnant. It came with a little thin white belt but I never wore that because of my big belly. I lost the belt so I decided to make a new one and wear the shirt again. I was inspired by the corsage belts at J.Crew. I found the pattern for the flower at Wise Craft. Instead of putting a button in the middle I just drew up the petals and tacked them on the back so the flower was fluffier. I used thin white grosgrain ribbon for the belt and cut it long enough to wrap around twice and tie in a bow. I like that look, it adds layer and interest. Promise it won't be so long before a blog again! Blessings to you all.
